LAST Sunday after the Epiphany

  • All Saints Episcopal Church 651 Eucalyptus Avenue Vista, CA 92084 United States (map)

You are warmly invited to worship with us at All Saints this Sunday as we gather on the Fourth Sunday after the Epiphany.

Our service begins at 9:30 a.m. and features the Gospel reading from Matthew 17:1–9, the story of the Transfiguration—when Jesus is revealed in radiant glory on the mountaintop and the disciples glimpse the fullness of who he is.

Join us as we reflect on what it means to encounter God’s light and be transformed by it. Come for prayer, music, scripture, and the joy of worshiping together. Whether you are a longtime parishioner or visiting for the first time, you are always welcome.

Readings this week are:
Exodus 24:12-18
Psalm 2
2 Peter 1:16-21
Matthew 17:1-9

About the Artwork: Transfiguration by Kelly Latimore

As we hear the Gospel of Matthew 17:1–9 today, Kelly Latimore’s Transfiguration offers a compelling visual reflection on this holy moment. In the Episcopal tradition, we are drawn not only to the story itself but to the mystery it reveals — Christ radiant in divine glory, standing between Moses and Elijah, as the disciples witness a glimpse of heaven breaking into earth.

Latimore’s iconographic style echoes the ancient Christian practice of using sacred art as theology in color and form. The luminous Christ at the center reminds us that the light revealed on the mountaintop is the same light that meets us in Word and Sacrament. The disciples’ posture of awe mirrors our own posture in worship — attentive, humbled, and transformed.

As we gather at the altar and hear this Gospel proclaimed, may this image deepen our prayer and invite us to carry Christ’s light from the mountaintop into the world.
